NURS 320 - Pharmacology Credits: 3 When Offered: Fall, Spring Prerequisite(s): NURS 222 , NURS 244 , and NURS 256 ; ENGL 101 , ENGL 102 and COMM 105 or ENGL 101H and ENGL 102 with a minimum grade of “C.” Corequisite(s): NURS 341 , NURS 354 and NURS 364 .
This course assists the student to develop the basic knowledge, skills, and values related to drug therapy. Students will learn drug classifications, mechanisms of action, therapeutic responses, drug interactions, adverse reactions, and nursing implications. The study of pharmacology in this course includes health promotion, prevention of disease and injury, management of disease and illness, and herbal therapies. The roles and responsibilities of the nurse in relationship to drug therapy are emphasized, ensuring that evidence-based best practices will result in safe, effective, and individualized medication administration.
