BDA 315 - Data Ethics and Privacy Credits: 3 When Offered: Fall Course Level: Upper Division Prerequisite(s): BDA 304 This course examines the ethical dilemmas surrounding data ethics, privacy, and the impact of machine learning and how the use of algorithmic features in the collection of data affects society. Philosophical concepts such as personal rights, social justice, autonomy and moral agency will be examined and applied to ethical issues related to artificial intelligence and data privacy. A case study approach will be taken to facilitate the student’s understanding and appreciation of the ethical complexities involved in how data is obtained, stored, analyzed and utilized.
