The course introduces basic concepts of corporate finance and provides tools for financial decisions. Concepts include: capital budgeting, which teaches project acceptance criteria consistent with management’s objective of maximizing the market value of the firm; cost of capital, which uses various models for estimating a project’s expected return; capital structure and dividend policy, which discusses how capital structure and dividend decisions affect firm value. Other concepts include issues of corporate control and governance; the workings of the debt and equity markets; and options.
