Recommended Prerequisite(s): PHYS 272 recommended.
A study of the chemical properties and biological functions of the atoms, molecules, macromolecules and macromolecular complexes that constitute living systems. First semester will deal with inorganic biochemistry, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, proteins and enzymes. Three lecture periods per week.
Note: First semester of a two-semester sequence. This course is a prerequisite to that of the second semester course. Credit may be received for the work of this course without the completion of the second.
