Cohort-dependent Program

The following is designated as a cohort-dependent program. For maximum student learning, a minimum of seven students is required.

The R.N.-B.S. in Nursing program for Registered Nurses provides an opportunity for working registered nurses to maximize their educational and career goals through the completion of a Bachelor of Science degree. The program is designed for the working adult in an evening format. The program is also designed to allow the working professional to integrate work and school in a diverse clinical setting.

The R.N.-B.S.in Nursing program is the responsibility of the Department of Nursing in the School of Health Professions, Science and Wellness, which manages the program and advises students in it. Processing of SGPS admission and financial aid forms is facilitated through SGPS.

Admission is a two-part process: (1) admission through SGPS, and (2) admission to the nursing program through the Department of Nursing.

ADMISSION

For admission to the R.N.-B.S.in Nursing program, students must have:

  • R.N. licensure in Maryland, District of Columbia, or a compact state or a non-compact state (all residency and/or transfer requirements must be met).
  • Current CPR and health requirements. See DEPARTMENT OF NURSING  / Admission Requirements section .
  • Acceptance of application to the nursing program.
  • Completion of the following prerequisites.

PREREQUISITES FOR ADMISSION

  • Must have a “C” or higher in all prerequisite courses
  • Submission of a cumulative college G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher is required

III. General Education (9 Credits)


Additional General Education requirements not listed below are fulfilled by completion of all admission prerequisites into program

  • HIST History elective Credits: 3
  • Humanities elective Credits: 3
    Note: Choose from the following subjects: Literature (additional to specific LITR requirement), philosophy or humanities.
  • LITR Literature elective Credits: 3
  • RELB/RELT Religion elective Credits: 0-3

Total: 121-124 Credits


Note: All students must take 36 upper-division credits. Thirty-three of the 36 upper-division credit degree requirements will be met after successful completion of all the nursing core curriculum, along with INTD 315  and INTD 327 . If taken, RELT 320  will meet the remaining three credits needed to fulfill the 36 credit upper-division requirement towards graduation.

The Department of Nursing requires all NURS courses to be completed at WAU as listed for graduation. A maximum of 31 NURS elective credits can be awarded to licensed nurses after reviewing coursework from other colleges or universities and submission of their R.N. license.
