The Bachelor of Science in Health Science program is an excellent entry point into the healthcare industry. It is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary program that prepares students with a strong foundation in the biological, social, and behavioral sciences.

Courses teach students to apply principles of healthy living to the education of individuals and communities, and focus on foundational knowledge and skills upon which to build additional competencies.

Coursework highlights foundational knowledge and skills as well as overall concepts, values, and applications that could prepare students to pursue careers in the healthcare industry and make meaningful impact on individuals and communities.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences program are prepared for diverse career opportunities or additional educational programs.

Upon successful completion of the health sciences program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate competence as entry-level healthcare professionals: Exhibit the necessary knowledge and skills to function competently as entry level professionals in various healthcare settings, ensuring effective contribution to the healthcare industry.
  2. Possess foundational knowledge in biological and health sciences: Acquire a strong foundational understanding of biology, chemistry, human anatomy, physiology, and disease processes, recognizing their significance in shaping health outcomes and informing healthcare practices.
  3. Integrate public health disciplines for health promotion: Integrate fundamental principles from core disciplines within public health to develop and deliver educational programs aimed at promoting public health initiatives and improving community well-being.
  4. Apply principles of healthy living at individual and community levels: Apply principles of healthy living at both individual and community levels to safeguard and enhance physical and mental well-being, emphasizing preventive measures and health promotion strategies.
  5. Guide behavior modification for health and wellness: Demonstrate proficiency in guiding individuals towards behavior modification strategies that promote health and wellness, fostering sustainable lifestyle changes and positive health outcomes.
  6. Adhere to professional, ethical, and legal standards: Apply professional, ethical, and legal standards to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health and wellness programs, ensuring responsible and ethical conduct in healthcare delivery.
  7. Critically evaluate information for health needs assessment: Evaluate information effectively to identify and address the health needs and concerns of individuals or groups, utilizing critical thinking skills to inform evidence-based decision-making in healthcare practice.

Career Opportunities

City, state and federal agencies employ health professionals in a variety of areas. These include: health promotion, obesity counseling, disease awareness, smoking cessation classes, etc. These areas are promoted through the different agencies for assisting citizens as they pursue lifestyle changes.

Corporations also utilize health professionals to ensure the health and well-being of their employees through health education and program implementation.

Another area that is emerging in the health field is health assessment.

Students will be prepared to assess health and deliver programming to assist their clients in lifestyle corrections.
