ENGL 101SA - Composition: Structure Intensive I Credits: 2 When Offered: Fall Prerequisite(s): English placement exam.
This is a two-semester intensive course that requires writing and reading. It is designed to help students gain mastery of writing skills for college and professional purposes. In this course students will learn to read for a variety of purposes including the development of academic literacy and critical thinking skills. Students will also write extensively to learn and develop an understanding of the importance of audience and purpose, organization, development, coherency, and stylistic consistency. This course includes one mandatory lab hour to give additional support for mastery in structuring academic essays. Students must successfully complete both semesters of ENGL 101SA and ENGL 101SB to meet the ENGL 101 Composition requirement. Students completing only the first semester will be withdrawn from the course. Grades posted at the end of the first semester are progress grades. The grade awarded at the end of the term will be the grade for both semesters in the student’s transcript.
Note: First semester of a two-semester sequence. This course is a prerequisite to that of the second semester course.
