CPSY 572 - Ethical and Legal Issues in Counseling Credits: 3 When Offered: Fall or Spring Course Level: Graduate
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the ethical and legal standards and practices that govern the counseling profession, including but not limited to professional orientation and responsibilities, counselor identity, professional roles and boundaries, and ethical decision-making processes. Ethical considerations within specialized counseling practices are differentiated, i.e., mental health, career, school, substance abuse, and rehabilitation counseling. Through critical analyses of ethical codes from prominent national counseling organizations, ethical principles are examined and applied practically within case study scenarios.
