CPTR 115 - Introduction to Computer Science Credits: 3 When Offered: Spring Prerequisite(s): CPTR 105 or waiver exam, placement in MATH 052 or 45th percentile on ACT /SAT Math.
Introduction to Computer Science uses a bottom-up approach. Hands-on construction of a computer, loading a UNIX system, UNIX commands and utilities, file structure, networking, shell scripts, programming tools and system administration. Topics also include ethics and fundamental problem-solving. Two one-hour lectures and a 2.5-hour closed laboratory session each week.
Note: Credit for this course does not apply toward a major, minor, or emphasis in Computer Science or Information Systems.
