CHEM 114 - Foundations of General, Organic, and Biochemistry Credits: 4 When Offered: Fall, Spring Prerequisite(s): MATH 052 .
Introduces the basic concepts of general chemistry, including atomic structure, chemical nomenclature, chemical reactions, solutions, and acid base chemistry; organic chemistry includes basic functional groups and nomenclature; biochemistry topics included the composition and properties of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Laboratory sessions deal with the scientific method, observation and measurement practices. Three hours lecture, 1 hour lab per week.
Note: Does not apply to a chemistry or biochemistry major or minor.
